Vraag1
Hebt u vragen of opmerkingen?
I do not agree with the idea to allow Schiphol to pursue night activities above towns and populated areas for many different reasons:
1. Schiphol has proven over the past few months that it cannot cope with the increase in travel passengers and has major difficulties in recruiting/retaining employees to allow a positive traveller experience. They even announced that airlines would need to cut down the number of flights going through Schiphol. So, why would we allow the airport to increase it's activities at night, as employee retention is even more difficult for night shifts.
2. Cities such as Amsterdam are trying to limit touristic activies as they cannot cope with the recent increase and it's negative impact on quality of life, civil structures/architectures, overall image, pollution, etc. Why should we allow the aiport to maintain/increase its activities which would go against efforts put in place by elected municipal representatives?
3. Many studies (including one related to Schiphol) around the world have proven that night disturbance, especially the one caused by airplanes, can have major consequences on humans. "Night-time aircraft noise at the child’s home was also associated with impaired reading comprehension and recognition memory"; "noise-induced sleep disturbance contributes to the increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD)"; "Aircraft noise has been associated but not consistently so with raised blood pressure in children in a number of studies, of which the largest involved 62 schools around London Heathrow and Schiphol airport."; "four of the five studies identified examining birth weight found associations between lower birth weight and higher aircraft noise."; "night-time aircraft noise was associated with a 28% increase in anxiety medication use", etc. - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5437751/
Undisturbed sleep is a prerequisite for high daytime performance, well-being and health. Aircraft noise can disturb sleep and impair sleep recuperation.
