European Drinking Water alliance supports revision of Dutch drinking water legislation

Dear MINISTER VAN INFRASTRUCTUUR EN WATERSTAAT
The European Drinking Water (EDW) alliance, supports efforts from the Dutch authorities in the revision of the Drinking Water Decree.
We make reference to the 21122021 Transponeringstabel EU-Drinkwaterrichtlijn 2020/2184 (herschikking) (Pb L435/9, 23.12.2020) VERSIE INTERNETCONSULTATIE
We welcome your proposal because it is in line with the previous Work of the 4-MS-Initiative and will implement the new European requirements, when they are ready.
We want to highlight the fact that, because the new European requirements are not yet known, it is not possible to determine what effect this will have on the the impact on the regulatory burden and the administrative burden. It is also not yet known whether existing transitional law will be introduced for existing certifications. If this is not the case, all materials and materials and chemicals would have to be recertified. This entails high one-off costs. However, a first step can be taken towards the effect of the harmonisation itself. In line with the revised EU Drinking Water Directive , EDW emphasises the need for a harmonised implementation of the provisions of Article 11 of the Directive (Minimum hygiene requirements for materials that come into contact with water intended for human consumption).
The harmonisation of requirements and certification provides better access to the European internal market. Because only one certification is needed to sell products throughout Europe, competition across the borders is stimulated. This means that the market becomes more efficient.
As such, EDW offers its technical support in the process to transpose into Dutch legislation provisions related to Article 11 of the EU Drinking Water Directive.
