Teaching should not be done only by one of the parents. - that would mean that all the wonderful teaching by our daughter's godfather who is a maths teacher, her grandfather a physicist and her god mother an art historian could not be done! The different types of teaching are what brings the richness into the child's education. Dutch teaching is known to be the lowest common denominator so not do the same to people willing to put in the energy and dedication to their children.

Teaching should be done from anywhere. The ability to take a child to a butterfly sanctuary or a nature reserve has huge benefits. Allowing parents to travel and teach gives the child more cultural, geographical, and historical knowledge than a classroom. at our home address - while visiting a museum would be still fine going on extended trips to South Africa, Austria, San Francisco or any other country outside the Dutch school vacation would not be possible. We have seen in the past that these (cultural) trips were unmatchable learning experiences for our children.

Teaching should not only be done in Dutch. The children should learn Dutch but the rest of the world speaks languages such as Mandarin, Spanish, English and these are of huge importance. Furthermore, scientific publications are mainly in English and as such should not be taught in Dutch,

The Dutch curriculum is not the most interesting or effective as we see from higher education results. Homeschooling for gifted children should mean a broadening to their interests olgsysteem) - this takes away the possibility of all child-led learning and asks for tons of paper work which does not add to the education of our children.
On the more positive aspects of the proposal, writing an educational plan for each child for every school year is indeed necessary. Home meeting with capable civil servants from the educational inspectorate for regular reviews at homes is essential to ensure that children really are getting an education,
The parents of expats cannot be expected to have a good level of Dutch. Children should have an external Dutch teacher where necessary for expat homeschooling parents.
